YELLOW CAKE

It's a countdown to nuclear meltdown
The men in their black suits
Feed us yellow cake
We eat each morsel and beg
"Please, Sir, can I have some more?"
We dig the holes deeper into the dreaming
And evict century old tenants
For that yellow cake for others to eat
We scream in disgust at the crumbs they leave us
We count the cost in dollars and smile
The green icing on our yellow cake
Our children cry at the bitter after taste
But it’s a new, clear tale we give them
Of an age of energy with no cost
Pollution with little waste
White metallic lies we tell ourselves
To keep the radioactive element out of our minds
As that beautiful yellow cake just keeps coming
